Icolo plans second data centre in Mombasa, Kenya

Icolo.io, the Kenyan-based colocation operator is to construct a new data centre in the city of Mombasa.

The company, which is majority owned by Interxion, a Digital Realty Company, already has operations in Nairobi and Mombasa. The new facility, MBA2, is located to north of the city of Mombasa in Nyali and will have 1.6 MW IT capacity, 1,200 sqm of floorspace and over 600 racks. MBA2 is due to be completed early 2022.

This will be the company’s third facility and its second in Mombasa. Mombasa One (MBA1) is a single storey facility located in the city’s Miritin area. MBA1 offers 450m sqm of data halls with 226 racks. The third facility dates to September 2019, Nairobi One, NBO1, in the Karen area of the city. This is a one-acre campus with 624 sqm of IT space with a 228-rack capacity.
