Nigerian telecoms and colocation operator, MainOne, has opened a new data centre in Appolonia City, 20km outside of Accra, Ghana. The facility will be operated by the company’s subsidiary, MDXi.
The new facility has 104 racks and is built to conform with TIA 942 and Uptime Institute Tier III standards. The carrier neutral facility offers interconnection into MainOne’s own submarine cable system.
MDXi also has a 600-rack data centre in Lekki, Nigeria, just outside Lagos. MainOne will continue to expand its digital footprint in West Africa, it has announced plans to almost double its storage capacity to 900 racks through MDXi over the next two years. The company is also building another 130-rack facility in Lagos due for completion by the end of this year, with further plans to add a 50-rack centre in Ivory Coast in 2022.
