Microsoft planning additional Chinese data centres by early 2022

According to Bloomberg, Microsoft is planning to add a further four facilities to its data centre portfolio in China by early 2022 in order to expand its service capacity across Asia.

Microsoft currently has six data centres in mainland China, operated by local partner 21Vianet. This news follows on from the company’s March ’21 announcement of its intentions to expand its network with a greater presence in the northern region surrounding Beijing. The locations of the four new sites have yet to be revealed.
