Wholesale data center developer and operator, Prime Data Centers is planning its second facility in Silicon Valley. The 9MW site on Martin Avenue in Santa Clara will span around 7,400 sq m (80,000 sq ft) of data center space across three storeys and is due to be operational by Q2 2022.
“Santa Clara is one of the most desired data center locations due to its proximity to the San Francisco Bay Area,” Jeff Barber, EVP at Prime, said. “In addition, the relatively affordable power rates from Silicon Valley Power (SVP) are very advantageous. Yet, it is difficult to find wholesale data center space in this area because of the scarcity and expense of available real estate, and the difficulty of obtaining guarantees that the power is available to service the new capacity. Prime has such assurances from SVP in hand today.”
The Martin Avenue facility is one mile from Prime’s other 9MW data centre in Santa Clara, which was fully pre-let to Cyxtera last month.
