Prime’s Santa Clara data centre to be leased exclusively to Cyxtera

Wholesale developer & operator, Prime Data Centers, has announced a pre-let deal with Cyxtera for its 9MW 11,000 sq m facility currently under construction in Santa Clara, California. The four storey data centre is due for completion late 2021.

Cyxtera has leased the entire facility from Prime to expand its colocation portfolio and provide additional capacity to existing facilities. The Santa Clara data centre will be its third building at the SF04 campus. The company’s retail colocation portfolio includes 60 data centres across 29 markets. Cyxtera is also adding 1.6MW of capacity at its SFO1 facility in California and 2MW to its ORD2 data centre in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.

Cyxtera recently also revealed plans for a $3.4 billion merger with Starboard Value Acquisition Corp (SVAC). The merger, due to complete soon, would make the combined companies the third-largest publicly held global provider of retail colocation and interconnection services.

Prime also announced this week a $5 billion partnership with Macquarie Capital to develop a project pipeline of 400MW.
