Overview

Meta was founded in Massachusetts as the social media platform Facebook. After notable acquisitions throughout its history, such as photo-sharing application Instagram in 2012, mobile messaging application Whatsapp in 2014, and virtual reality gaming company Oculus the same year, Meta has been expanding the focus of the company towards enhancing immersive experiences with augmented, virtual and mixed reality.

Since the opening of the first data centre campus in 2011 in Prineville, Oregon, Meta has launched facilities in other states, as well as countries in Europe and in Singapore.
