Shaw Communications was founded in 1966 as Capital Cable Television Company Ltd. in Edmonton, Alberta, by Canadian businessman James Robert Shaw. In April 2023 the company was acquired by Rogers Communications for CAD 20 billion, with the requirement for Shaw's Freedom Mobile unit's wireless licenses to be transferred to Quebecor Inc, owned by Videotron.
