Verizon

Overview

Founded in 2000 in New York, Verizon was created following the merger of Bell Atlantic Corp. and GTE Corp. It is a global telecommunicactions company that is listed on the NYSE. It has close to 1 and a half thousand retail locations that serve customers in over 150 countries.

In 2000, soon after the initial merger that formed Verizon, in a deal alongside Vodafone, Verizon Wireless was created as a mobile carrier with an estimated 23 million customers. In 2011 Verizon acquired Terremark, then in 2015 Verizon acquired AOL and in 2017 it acquired Yahoo Inc. Notably, Verizon was the first company to launch the commerical 5G network.

In 2022 AT&T acquired some of Verizon's wireless properties to help improve their network service.
