US hyperscale data centre developer and operator, Stack Infrastructure, announced that it will operate its entire portfolio with 100% renewable energy by the end of 2021. The move comes with the release of its “One Purpose” initiative which puts a high priority on Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) standards.
Data centre colo operators are moving in line with US tech giants including Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft and Google who have all made commitments to using only sustainable energy. Since these companies make up the vast majority of data centre demand, Stack Infrastructure’s ESG initiative could be seen as vital to securing hyperscale customers in the future.
The announcement comes at a time when the company is accelerating its development plans, with over 500MW of new IT capacity either planned or under construction across the US.
