Kuala Lumpur is the capital city and presently the largest submarket in Malaysia. The market first developed around Central KL and Cyberjaya, and later developed in Greater KL such as Bukit Jalil and Negeri Sembilan with the Cloud Service Providers establishing their availability zones. Malaysian authorities have been actively promoting Malaysia as the upcoming regional data centre hub and instituted channels to support foreign operators on their market entry such as the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).

Colocation operators include domestic operators such as Telkom Malaysia, AIMS, YTL as well as international operators such as Bridge Data Centres, NTT GDC, and Vantage Data Centres. The three major cloud service providers, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, and Google all either have self-build deployments and pipeline projects. A number of Chinese cloud providers have also deployed in colocation facilities.
